So the new kindle 2 is finally out.

It costs the same as the first version which is unexpected, especially when we are used to newer versions - the mark Iis, Iiis, Ivs, ... Etc - becoming cheaper.

Kindle

Why?

In a recent interview, Jeff Bezos, Amazon Ceo and founder, said there was no way to lower the price given the upgraded components in the kindle 2.

So what has Amazon added that has improved things so much?

1) It's thinner - only 0.36 inches thick. About half as thick as Version 1, about as thin as a typical magazine.

2) Its 6-inch screen displays 16 shades of grey. kindle 1 displays only four. So images and text are much crisper in the new version.

3) It reads out the text of any book, blog, magazine, or newspaper to you from it's two built-in speakers. That's the very cool, new Text to Speech feature.

4) It stores 1,500 books, instead of 200.

5) It's battery lasts longer. With kindle 1, if you left the wireless on, permanently, you would have to recharge almost every other day. With this new one, you'd recharge after four days. If you turned the wireless off, you could read with the first ebook reader for about a week before needing to re-charge. With the new one, that goes up to two weeks.

6) It's pages turn faster. About 20% faster.

And, all the other interesting things about the Kindle remain - The free whispernet download-anywhere service, books and other reading matter delivered fast - in about a minute, comfortable reading experience, being able to read anywhere, all your books backed up with Amazon, etc.
